Roll Bonding Processes: State-of-the-Art and Future Perspectives

Roll bonding (RB) describes solid-state manufacturing processes where cold or hot rolling of plates sheet metal is carried out for joining similar and dissimilar materials through the principle severe plastic deformation. This review covers mechanics RB processes, identifies key process parameters, provides a detailed discussion on their scientific and/or engineering aspects, which influence microstructure–mechanical behavior relations processed materials. It further evaluates available research focused improving metallurgical mechanical bonded such as microstructure modification, strength enhancement, local properties, corrosion electrical resistance evolution. Moreover, current applications advantages, limitations developments in material roll technologies producing titanium to steel stainless carbon ultra-thick are also discussed. The paper concludes by deliberating mechanisms, guidelines process–property–structure relationships, recommending probable areas future research.
